Self-taught artist Theolyn Gilley was born and raised on Mount Desert Island. The daughter of a fisherman, she spent all of her young life in and around the ocean. She says she draws inspiration from the beauty and nobility of the Island Communities. Much of her work includes scenes from the small outer islands. She says she seeks to express in her art their special magic.
